The
Town currently maintains the Friendship Trail by picking
up garbage from receptacles at trail access points,
sweeping and mowing the trail corridor annually, and addressing
maintenance issues raised by the public on a case-by-case
basis.
Town
Council implemented the Friendship Trail Adopt-A-Trail Program
in 2001 through which community volunteers maintain the
trail by picking up and removing litter and brush from the
trail, pruning overgrown vegetation, and making routine
inspections for general damage. To date, there are 14 adoptable
sections of the Friendship Trail. Generally, each section
is approximately 800 metres in length. One school group
is paired with one community group for each section.

The
2008 National Volunteer Week is scheduled for April
27 to May 3. A great opportunity to contribute to the trail!
In
order to participate, interested volunteer groups must complete
an Adopt-A-Trail
Program Agreement, including a complete participant
list. The group leader must attend a mandatory one-hour
safety training session. Participating schools will be required
to submit an Agreement signed by the Principal, stating
that the school’s liability insurance will cover the
participation of its students and that the school has received
parental consent for the project.
Adopt-A-Trail program participants will be recognized for
their efforts through signage on the trail.
